Acclimation of Hardwood Flooring
Acclimation of hardwood flooring is critical for the wood to reach it's equilibrium moisture content for our climate. For all residential applications with above grade installations, Eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota see wood moisture content (MC) of 5% to 12%. The majority of the year the wood moisture content is 7% to 10%. This corresponds to a relative humidity (RH) of 35% to 55%. Therefore the wood should be acclimated to 9% MC and 45% RH. This can be done by stacking the wood with the correct humidity in that area and then checking the wood MC with a moisture meter.
